Rhenopterus sp. -- Huge, rare eurypterid from the German Rhineland. This region is famous for its amazing fossils, but they are typically found in sandstones as hard as concrete and nearly impossible to prepare. This 11.8" (295mm) eurypterid is a typical example -- complete, but rough. The plate measures 16" x 19" (230mm x 410mm) and is stabilized on the back with plastic to prevent fractures. Any Devonian eurypterids are just staggeringly rare and this is the first we have even seen for sale in 20 years. A rare opportunity to obtain something almost never seen for sale.
